Milliken Mills is located on the southern shore of Maine and is not only home to a nine mile sandy beach but home of the newspaper conglomerate, Nolan Publishing.  Started by Nathan Nolan in his teens, Nolan Publishing has grown into one of the largest companies in the country. Nathan has a reputation of being a hard-nosed businessman and womanizing philanderer, often making the headlines in his rival's publications. His wife is currently trying to take him for all he is worth in a divorce while his daughter has hidden herself in Europe to avoid her parents. Nathan's son, Thomas, has been groomed from an early age to takeover the helm of Nolan one day but his spoiled upbringing has left him impatient and feeling entitled. 

 

Volume One of the series begins leading up to the annual Nolan Publishing Party which is always sure to provide fireworks in front of the city's elite and legions of press. Last year's event included pictures of Nathan's wife, Jackie, and her new lover half her age in compromising positions plastered on a big screen for all to see. This year is sure to be just as explosive when Nathan has uncovered a plan by his son to unseat him as C.E.O. at Nolan and takeover.

 

It all comes to a head at the party where someone ends up dead.

Nathan Nolan:

Patriarch of the Nolan family and owner of Nolan Publishing, including the Milliken Mills Times. Husband of Jackie Nolan. Father of Thomas and Tina.

 

Jackie Nolan:

Matriarch of the Nolan family. Current wife of Nathan but is seeking divorce. Mother of Thomas and Tina.

 

Thomas Nolan:

Son of Nathan Nolan. Works at Nolan. Has been groomed to one day take over. Brother of Tina. Attended Milliken Mills University with Eddie Drake, Cody Connor, and Melanie Wilson. Former lover of Melanie Wilson and Lacy Hanna.

 

Melanie Wilson:

Niece of George Wilson, the owner of MM's only other newspaper, the Enquirer.  Attended college with Thomas, Eddie, and Cody before dropping out and running away out of town. Ex-lover of Thomas Nolan and dated Michael Adams.

 

Eddie Drake:

Works at Nolan Publishing. Attended college with Thomas, Cody, and Melanie. Brother of Erika. Married to Catherine.

 

Erika Drake Connor:

Works at Mill Land Pub with husband, Cody Connor. Brother of Eddie.

 

Cody Connor:

Owner of Mill Land Pub. Husband of Erika. Attended college with Thomas, Eddie, and Melanie.

 

Catherine Drake:

Nurse at Milliken Mills Memorial. Wife of Eddie Drake.

 

Lacy Hanna:

Worked at Nolan Publishing before leaving town for a while. Has just recently returned. Ex-lover of Thomas Nolan. Sister of Suzy.

 

Suzy Hanna:

Works at Nolan Publishing. Sister of Lacy. 

 

Martin Newman:

Having an affair with Jackie Nolan. Worked as a bartender in Miami.

Michael Adams: 

Milliken Mills police officer. Dated Melanie in high school before leaving for the military.
